About kids' events in Port Washington
Getting out of the house in Port Washington with a 1 to 4 year old usually means a short drive or walk to one of the local playgrounds, or a stop at the library branch for story time and board books. Town recreation departments and the library network run most of the free, drop-in programming for young children, so the calendar fills up around those. Right now, our Port Washington calendar has 22 events, and nearly all are cooking classes at The Cooking Lab. A typical listing is a “Kids’ Homemade Cupcake Workshop,” though that one starts at age 8, so for younger kids check the class details for toddler-friendly sessions. There is also one outdoor event listed, a good reminder that the area has green space for a quick run-around between errands. Getting around is car-first, but the Long Island Rail Road runs through town, so a parent can drive to a class, park at the venue, or take the train into the city for a day trip. Walkable blocks near the station mix with residential streets, so plan for a stroller on some sidewalks but a car seat for most outings.
