About kids' events in Howard Beach
A quiet, residential corner of southern Queens, Howard Beach sits along Jamaica Bay with the kind of wide streets, single-family houses, and front yards that feel more suburban than anything else in the borough. Most families here drive, and that's worth knowing upfront: the A train stops at Howard Beach/JFK Airport, but much of the neighborhood is spread out enough that a car or stroller-plus-ride situation makes day-to-day life easier. For outdoor time with a toddler, Frank M. Charles Memorial Park is the main anchor. It's a 20-acre waterfront park right on Jamaica Bay with a children's playground, a half-mile paved path, and enough open space to let a small kid run. The views of the water, and the planes coming in over JFK, are genuinely fun for toddlers who like big things in motion. The Queens Public Library has a branch right in the neighborhood on 156th Avenue, a solid stop for storytime and a change of scenery on a rainy afternoon. There are no dedicated toddler studios based here right now, but NYC Parks runs programming locally. With 15 events currently on the calendar, there's a real rhythm of activity for families who know where to look.
