Kids' Events in Baychester

About kids' events in Baychester

Baychester sits in the northeast Bronx, and it genuinely feels different from most of the borough. The streets are lined with brick row houses and small yards, and the pace on a weekend morning is quiet enough that you can actually hear yourself think. That matters when you have a one-year-old in a stroller. The neighborhood's main outdoor anchor is Haffen Park, a solid spread with a playground, splash pad, a community pool that draws big summer crowds, and enough open lawn to spread a blanket. It is the kind of place you end up at twice a week without planning to. The NYPL's Eastchester branch, on East Gun Hill Road, is close enough to round out a morning. For getting around, buses along Boston Road and Gun Hill Road are your most practical option. The 5 train stops at Baychester Avenue, but the station is stairs-only, so a bus pass is worth having. On days when the weather turns, the Billy Beez indoor play park at nearby Bay Plaza has saved many parents from a long afternoon indoors. NYC Parks runs events in the area, so the calendar picks up noticeably once warmer months arrive.
