About kids' events in Red Hook
A waterfront corner of Brooklyn that feels genuinely quiet compared to the rest of the borough, Red Hook sits between the BQE and the water, giving it a low-traffic, almost car-optional energy on weekday mornings. That said, there's no subway stop here, so most families drive, take the B61 bus, or use the NYC Ferry if coming from elsewhere. For little ones, Red Hook Recreation Area is the big anchor: a sprawling 58-acre park with a playground, a running track, and an Olympic-size pool with a separate toddler sprinkler area open in summer. Louis Valentino Jr. Park and Pier is a smaller, calmer green patch right on the water, great for strollers and picnics even without a play structure. The neighborhood library is currently running out of an interim space on Van Brunt Street while the permanent branch on Wolcott Street undergoes full renovation. Brooklyn Public Library's Red Hook Interim branch is the one hosting kids' programming right now, and it's the local partner behind some of the events listed here. Weekends bring a relaxed, low-key pace that parents with a one to four year old tend to find pretty manageable.
