Getting out of the house with a small kid in Valhalla means heading to Kensico Dam Plaza, run by Westchester County Parks. That open lawn and the dam itself give a toddler plenty of room to run, and the outdoor setting keeps things simple. The local library branch, part of the Westchester Library System, is a good backup for a rainy morning. A couple of playgrounds sit within a short drive, though none are named on our calendar right now. What we actually have listed here for Valhalla is one outdoor event at Kensico Dam Plaza, tied to Westchester County Parks and The Farm Café. It is the kind of casual, low key outing that works when you just need to get out without a big plan. Practically, you will drive. Parking at the plaza is usually easy, and a car seat is non-negotiable for anything beyond walking around the block. Metro-North runs through Westchester, but for a day with a 1 to 4 year old, your own car is the real tool. Bee-Line buses cover local routes, but loading a stroller and a toddler makes driving the better call more often than not.
