Getting out of the house in Summit usually means a short drive or walk to a local playground, then a stop at the library. The downtown main street has the basics, and the surrounding blocks are lined with sidewalks, so you can stretch a morning into a slow loop with a stroller. Right now our calendar has 28 events here, and nearly all of them are free storytimes at Summit Free Public Library. They run a Baby Bookworms session for ages 6 months to 2 years, which is a solid low stakes outing. Beyond that, you will find a handful of theater and art classes, plus one festival and one show spread through the year. The only studio we have listed in Summit right now is Passion for Spices Cooking School. They run an after school cooking program for kids and teens, including a five week Tuesday series, which can be a fun way to change up the week. Parking is easy near the train station, but this is car-first territory. Drive to most spots, or take NJ Transit into Manhattan when you want a bigger field trip.
