About kids' events in Parkchester
A planned community in the east Bronx, Parkchester was built around a central green called the Metropolitan Oval, a landscaped plaza with a fountain where families gather on warmer days. The whole area was designed for walking, so getting around with a stroller is genuinely easy, and the 6 train stops right at the neighborhood's core on Westchester Avenue. The NYPL's Parkchester branch, also on Westchester Avenue, has a dedicated second floor for children and runs storytime, arts and crafts, and other programs for little ones throughout the week. A couple of playgrounds sit within the neighborhood, plus broader green space a short distance away. The streets feel lively but contained, with lots of families and a real mix of food from Bangladeshi grocers and restaurants to big-name stores all within walking distance. There are 21 upcoming events listed here, and some are hosted by Queens Public Library locations in Woodhaven and Ridgewood that draw from across the area. Parkchester suits the under-five set especially well on weekdays, when the paths around the Oval are calm and the library's kids' floor is easy to drop into.
