About kids' events in Kew Gardens
Quiet, residential, and genuinely tree-lined, Kew Gardens sits in central Queens with a pace that suits a stroller and a two-year-old in tow. The big draw outdoors is Forest Park right on the neighborhood's western edge, a 500-plus-acre park with seven playgrounds along its perimeter, wooded trails, and a historic carousel that little kids tend to lose their minds over. On days when you want something closer and lower-key, there are a couple of smaller neighborhood playgrounds within a short walk of most blocks. The E, F, M, and R trains stop at Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike, so getting in from other parts of the city is easy, and the tree-lined residential streets feel calm enough on a weekend morning that you're not fighting heavy foot traffic. The area leans apartment buildings and co-ops, so there are lots of families doing the same thing you are. Programming here is mostly outdoors and NYC Parks-run, including events through Kew's Children's Garden, which brings structured kids' activities into the park setting. Not a neighborhood with a packed indoor-class scene, but if open air and green space are what you're after right now, Kew Gardens delivers.
