Brooklyn Ballet Placement Audition | Level II: Ages 10-12

Join us for our Level II Placement Audition for students ages 10-12. Absolute beginner to beginner students of all abilities are welcome! Where: Brooklyn Ballet, 160 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, NY, 11201 What To Expect The audition will begin with a ballet barre followed by combinations in the center and across the floor. There is nothing additional students need to prepare. What To Wear & Bring Students must arrived dressed in form-fitting ballet and/or dance attire. Ballet slippers are strongly recommend, but not required. Students with long hair must have their hair in a bun or similar hairstyle. Bathrooms, changing rooms, and drinking fountains are available. Elementary Ballet I (Age 5-6) - Semester

The class emphasizes proper placement, vocabulary, etiquette, and ballet-based improvisation. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.

Ballet III & Pointe requires an audition or placement class prior for enrollment. The class focuses on advanced barre work, center exercises, across the floor combinations, pointe work, and ballet variations. Students learn advanced technique, while emphasizing musicality, discipline, and professionalism. We highly recommend students at this level take class at least three times a week for optimal growth. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.

Elementary Ballet II / Ballet I is a split-level class for students ages 6-10. The class focuses on fundamental concepts such as maintaining proper body placement, developing strength, building endurance and increasing flexibility as well as introduces a traditional ballet class structure. Students learn fundamental ballet technique through barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations designed to improve coordination, flexibility, endurance, and musicality. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.

Modern & Contemporary III is highly recommended in addition to Ballet and Jazz. Modern and Contemporary dance build on the foundation of ballet technique, with an emphasis on quality of movement, acknowledgement of gravity, and seamless transitions of weight. The techniques of modern dance masters, such as Martha Graham, Lester Horton, José Limón, and Merce Cunningham, are introduced and progress in difficulty through the levels. Classes cover movement combinations in the center and across the floor. Students perform in the Student Showcase at the end of the spring semester.
