Greek Epics: The Iliad and the Odyssey | Studio A: Ages 8-12

Mon, Aug 31 · 9:00 AM

Goose Grease House | Studio A · Southside

Depending on which craft we go for, we will either study Homer’s Illiad and/or Odyssey. In case we focus on the Iliad, we will be making a miniature Trojan horse. In case we focus on the Odyssey , we will be making projects based on Odysseus’ journey (a cyclops, a siren, etc.) It could also be a combination of both epic poems, in which case we will combine projects to form one whole Greek epic picture! **Please note: all camps will go up to $650 on March 16th**

We teach history through art! Our Studio B is home to our youngest and first-time Goose Greasers, who will learn the basic building blocks of art-making and our Goose Grease style. Our pedagogical approach is to immerse our students in our topic of study while creating, taking notes, and having inspiring conversation. **Please note: all camps will go up to $650 on March 16th**

Mon, Sep 14 · 3:00 PM

Goose Grease House | Studio A · Southside

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Circa 1870, our studies will begin by addressing how oil replaced coal as the internal combustion engine was developed, leading humanity and the use of machines into WWI. We will study how the Second Industrial Revolution developed the machines used in WWI by making a related art object, potentially a trench. We will be taking a close look at inventions and natural resources, as well as geopolitics and military history. We will be thinking through the deep transformations that human beings went through as the ‘machine’ started to be a reality of war as well. THE STUDIO: Art-intensive, with a focus on multi-media art making and history learning. Students will gain confidence in their art skills as they work with quality art materials and build their own miniature worlds. Each class includes a topical or historical lesson, followed by project led art-making time. We teach history through art! Our afternoon workshops are supplemental learning sessions to your child's education, as we add geography and history to all of our art classes. Our unique curriculum is designed and taught by Anna (MFA), Juan Carlos Donado (PhD in Philosophy), and Lucy Schwartzreich (BFA). School Pickup: Mondays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132 Tuesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 18, PS 84 Wednesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 18, C’e Montessori (limited PS 84 upon request) Thursdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 84 *IS 318 Students walk over in a group on Fridays Want to learn more about our studio to see if we're a good fit for your child? Intro to Mythology (grades PreK-1) | Monday, Fall 2026

Mon, Sep 14 · 3:00 PM

Goose Grease House | Studio B · Southside

CLASS DESCRIPTION: As mythology has fascinated our students since the very beginnings of Goose Grease, this course is designed for them to plunge right in. Always in an age appropriate way, we will be concerned with the deep questions myths pose, as well as the similarities sometimes encountered between different myths in different cultures. We will spend time studying some main Greek, Roman, Norse, Aztec, and perhaps Indian myths as we make different art objects relevant both historically and culturally. We will potentially make a Greek amphora, a Roman statuette, a Norse ship, and an Aztec mask. THE STUDIO: Art-intensive, with a focus on multi-media art making and history learning. Students will gain confidence in their art skills as they work with quality art materials and build their own miniature worlds. CLASS DESCRIPTION: Focusing on the island of Cuba, we’ll learn as much as we can about its history in a semester. We will continue into Spanish colonization and hopefully end by briefly studying the Cuban Revolution, with figures and events such as Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, J. F. Kennedy, Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis, being our key milestones. Our main project will be a build of the old city of Havana, perhaps including an old car. We will also look at Cuban art, literature, music, and musical instruments. THE STUDIO: Art-intensive, with a focus on multi-media art making and history learning. Drawing Fundamentals and Portfolio (grades 5-8) | Friday, Fall 2026From $1

Drawing Fundamentals and Portfolio (grades 5-8) | Friday, Fall 2026

Fri, Sep 18 · 3:00 PM

Goose Grease House | Studio B · Southside

CLASS DESCRIPTION: This advanced drawing class is for students who are interested in learning the foundations of art as well as working on expanding their portfolio and honing their drawing skills. Taught by our talented teaching artist, Ms. Lucy, students will explore composition, shading techniques, color theory, and more. Simultaneously, we will discuss Art History as we work. This class is structured for dedicated students who can spend extended time drawing and focused on excelling in their skill. This is a great choice for middle schoolers who are planning on applying to an arts high school and looking to build their portfolio. All of the students who have taken this class and submitted a portfolio have gotten into their high school of choice!** **While we will be using High School Portfolio standards to inform our practice, we will not necessarily be making pieces that will fit your 8th grade portfolio application (please see our note below). Please note , the portfolio requirements for the High School application are very rigorous, and cannot be completed in this Friday class alone. If you have a 7th or 8th grader that is building a portfolio and would like our assistance, you will need to add-on an additional fee of $90 weekly. This will give your child access to attend our studio any additional days they would like where they will work independently on the assignments required for their portfolio. We will also assign them required homework. Please email us about this option. *Please note , this class will focus on works on paper with pencil, paint, and pastels. There will be little to no 3D building as this is a rigorous drawing and art history class. Homework This class will receive a weekly homework assignment. While homework is optional, we do recommend that your child completes the assignments each week in order to benefit the most from the class.
