We invite you to visit the library anytime in October to see our Art Show of the Month- Gigi Perez: Bowery Layers. Bowery Layers explores identity, beauty, popular culture, memory, and the visual energy of downtown New York through mixed-media collage, painting, photography, and found materials. At the heart of the exhibition are actual street posters collected from the Bowery, Houston Street, and First Avenue. Torn from the walls of the city, these fragments carry traces of advertisements, events, typography, weather, graffiti, and the constant transformation of New York’s streets. They are not simply backgrounds; they become part of the history, texture, and meaning of each work. My process is built through layering and accumulation. I work directly on the canvas, building one layer over another with found photographs, fragments of street posters, paper, and printed imagery. Some images disappear beneath new layers, while others remain partially visible, creating unexpected connections between what is hidden and what is revealed. Over these layers, I add acrylic paint, spray paint, drawing, marks, texture, and other mixed-media materials. I tear, cover, scrape, paint over, and expose parts of the surface until the composition begins to tell its own story. The layers underneath are just as important as what remains visible on top. This process reflects the way memory, identity, and cities are built: through fragments, repetition, change, and traces of what came before. In Bowery Layers, familiar faces, fashion imagery, cultural icons, and found street materials are reconstructed into new narratives. Glamour meets grit, beauty meets imperfection, and polished imagery collides with the raw surfaces of downtown New York. Each work becomes both a portrait and an urban archive, a story built from paint, paper, photographs, and pieces of the streets themselves. BIO Gigi Perez is a Venezuelan-American multimedia artist based in Nyack, New York, whose dynamic work merges street art, pop art, collage, and contemporary urban expression. Drawing inspiration from the raw energy, rhythm, and visual textures of New York City, she transforms found street posters, bold typography, acrylic paint, and mixed media into vibrant, richly layered compositions. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and pop-up exhibitions throughout New York, Berlin, and Japan. Gigi Perez studied advertising and later pursued art studies at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Before dedicating herself fully to her studio practice, she spent more than a decade as a visual merchandiser and stylist for iconic institutions and brands such as Ralph Lauren, Diesel, Gucci, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art , experiences that continue to shape her distinctive approach to composition, color, and visual storytelling.

We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 8th, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm, for an opening reception for STAGE LIGHT: Photographs of Dancers, Musicians and Performers by Stephanie Berger with a performance by Annamae Goldstein and Diego Garcia. STAGE LIGHT: Photographs of Dancers, Musicians and Performers by Stephanie Berger For over thirty years I have photographed dance, theatre, and music in New York City — as house photographer at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center, the Park Avenue Armory, Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Museum, and as a culture photographer for the New York Times. My work started as documentation: a record of the artists, companies, and productions that defined a particular moment in the city's cultural life. Over time, the camera became something more than a record-keeping tool — it became a form of artistic exchange as well as documentation. Photographing artists over so many years is itself a kind of exchange, one that has let me see how artists, disciplines, and programs speak to one another across cultures and across time — and that seeing is inseparable from my own sensibility as the photographer behind the lens. I look for the split second where stillness meets movement, and let composition, light, and timing shape it into its own image. The photographs are evidence of what happened on stage — but they're also my interpretation of it: the rhythm, the gesture, the light the audience may have felt but not quite seen. Stage Light holds both concepts at once — the documentary and the artistic — as two sides of the same practice. Stephanie Berger: Stephanie Berger has spent more than 30 years photographing dance and live performance, working as house photographer for some of New York City's most important cultural institutions and for many years as a culture photographer for the New York Times. Before that, she climbed bridges for the NYC Department of Transportation, documenting infrastructure at risk. Her projects include the 52nd Street Project and her 2016 book, Merce Cunningham: Beyond the Perfect Stage, now in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, the Dia Art Foundation, and MASS MoCA. She has lived in Piermont with her husband, Paul King, for 21 years, where she raised their sons, Jacob and Noah King, who attended the South Orangetown schools and now live in Brooklyn. Annamae Goldstein: Annamae Goldstein grew up in Blauvelt, where the South Orangetown music department gave her a creative refuge, and went on to study at Juilliard for 11 years beginning at age 11. She began playing with the New Jersey Symphony while still at conservatory and joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1990, where her 36 years have been thrilling, demanding, and at times far too stressful, while her career has also taken her to music festivals around the world. Now living in Piermont, where she raised her sons Owen and Sam Gould in the same schools she attended, she enjoys gardening, singing with the All Together Now chorus in Nyack, and walking her dog, Django, in the Tallman and Rockleigh woods. Diego Garcia: Colombian-born Diego Garcia is a conductor, cellist, and educator who has worked with conservatories, universities, orchestras, and festivals across the Americas and Europe. He is Artist Faculty in Cello and Conducting at NYU Steinhardt and Music Director of Orchestras at Dwight-Englewood School and the Thurnauer School of Music. He lives in Piermont with his wife, Annaliesa Place, and their daughters, Calima and Vera Garcia.

Join us for a journey of socialization, connection, support, and love! The intention of our parent–child program is to offer parents and caregivers a dedicated space to de-stress, share their journey, and explore practical mindfulness tools to bring warmth and ease into the home. Support & Connection: Every session begins with an open support circle to introduce yourselves, reflect, and share in a community of fellow parents. The 7 Pillars of Mindfulness: Over the course of the semester, we will spend two weeks exploring each of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s seven foundational principles of mindfulness— non-judgment, patience, beginner’s mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go . Practical Integration: You’ll walk away from each class with simple, tangible ways to weave mindfulness into your child’s daily routine. Pricing: $38/class (full session) | $45 drop-in (Includes 1 adult + 1 child; additional add-ons available at checkout)
This half-day experience offers the same beloved structure as our full-week camp, distilled into a vibrant three-hour session. Each Saturday morning, children dive into a world of joyful play and creative expression, where mindfulness practices like yoga and breathwork are naturally woven into a morning filled with laughter and discovery. Our time together is a balanced blend of high-energy fun and quiet reflection. Students engage in themed art projects, collaborative board games, and plenty of creative play, all while our educators guide them in using mindfulness tools to navigate their emotions and social dynamics. Whether we are exploring the studio or taking our practice outdoors to enjoy the fresh Piermont air, your child will leave with a sense of calm, a boost of confidence, and a heart full of Saturday morning memories. Our adventures extend far beyond the mat. Weather permitting, we spend our days exploring the beauty of Piermont—walking nature trails, visiting the local library and playgrounds, and enjoying water play in our garden. Between structured activities, students have dedicated time for creative play and board games, allowing our educators to support them in real-time. Whether they are joining us for a day or a full week, your child will return home with a bag full of art, a heart full of stories, and a calmer, more confident sense of self.
