Intro to Robotics is an 12-weeks introductory course designed to make learning fun for kids! This course focuses on robotics, engineering, coding, physics, and math. Throughout this course, children will use LEGO pieces to construct their own robots and learn to control them using simple computer programs. Our teaching philosophy emphasizes hands-on learning experiences. Kids will actively engage in building and programming their robots, gaining practical insights into how math and science concepts apply in real life. Following the STEAM approach, our classes integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math to foster problem-solving abilities and encourage creativity. Kids will discover the interconnectedness of these subjects and their applications in solving real-world challenges. Through the process of building and coding robots, children will develop essential problem-solving skills and nurture their creativity. Designed for elementary school students, this hands-on STEM class encourages creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork through engaging engineering challenges. Using the VEX GO Robotics System, students build and program a variety of robots while exploring real-world engineering concepts. Through fun, project-based activities, they learn how simple machines work, develop mechanical building skills, and discover how sensors, motors, and mechanisms work together to solve problems. Students bring their creations to life using VEXcode , a beginner-friendly block-based programming platform that introduces coding concepts in an engaging and accessible way. As they design, test, and improve their robots, they also learn the Engineering Design Process, computational thinking, and problem-solving strategies used by real engineers. Each lesson presents a new challenge that encourages students to collaborate, think creatively, and apply STEM concepts in a fun and supportive learning environment. In Spring and Fall, this program will take place outside in a magical forest we call the Wonder Village . During winter, we create a hybrid indoor-outdoor experience based out of the Prospect Park Picnic House so that kids can continue engaging in the natural world while also having access to a warm refuge. . The VEX IQ Competitive Rookie Team is designed for students who are ready to take their first serious step into competitive robotics. This program is ideal for students with prior robotics experience who want to apply their skills in a real competition environment while maintaining a balanced schedule. Students work as part of a team to design, build, program, test, and improve a VEX IQ competition robot. Throughout the season, they learn the fundamentals of competitive robotics, including engineering design, programming, game strategy, teamwork, and effective communication. Competitive Rookie Team students will: Design, build, and program a VEX IQ competition robot Develop coding, engineering, and problem-solving skills through hands-on challenges Learn competition strategy, robot testing, and performance optimization Gain experience working as part of a collaborative engineering team Develop teamwork, leadership, communication, and presentation skills Participate in 3–4 local VEX IQ tournaments during the season Experience the excitement of real robotics competitions and tournament play This program serves as an important stepping stone toward higher levels of competitive robotics.
