Book donations begin August 31. Please bring donations to the Meeting Room. Limit of 5 boxes/bags of donations per family. Rye Free Reading Room Book Sale When is the Rye Free Reading Room Book Sale? The 2025 Book Sale will take place on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th, 2026. The book sale is open from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday. What are the prices for the items? Children's books are $1 each Teen books are $3 each Adult books are $3 each What items can I donate to the library book sale? Beginning August 31, 2026, you can donate any book in good condition to the book sale. We accept material for all ages and all genres. Please limit your donation to no more than 5 boxes or bags. Donations will only be accepted through September 16th. Please note that library staff are not able to unload donations from private vehicles. What items do you not accept? Any books that have water damage, mold damage, missing pages or are heavily marked up Any books that are library discards Encyclopedias Reader’s Digest condensed books VCR tapes or cassette tapes DVDs CDs Magazines Phone books Computer books older than 5 years Textbooks Where can I donate my items? Take the Lead - Historic Miniature Battles for 4th and 5th Graders

Come play in this fast paced game of WWI aerial dogfighting. Players will be part of a team of bi-plane and tri-plane pilots. It’s dawn in 1918, and out of the clouds emerge enemy planes intent on shooting you down. The enemy has an observation balloon and it’s your job to make sure they don’t get to use it. Did you remember your parachute? Lots of fun, and learn some history as well. Games are facilitated by experts from the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, Next Gen, Inc. who have great experience in running games that are fun and challenging for players. Space is limited to 12 players in grades 4 and 5 at this time, so register early to save your spot.

Susan Deshkensky is a fiber and fabric artist. Her designs and quilts have been published in thirty magazines. Susan is an award winning quilter on both a national and regional level. Susan is a Certified instructor for Quiltworx and an Alumni Ambassador for Lumin Fabrics/Island Batik. She loves to make t-shirt and memory quilts for customers. Susan's new found passion is long arm quilting. It is a joy to design, create and longarm your individual works without outside assistance. Art For Purchase This fall, The Rye Arts Center once again transforms Purchase Street in Downtown Rye into an open-air art experience. This year's edition runs longer than ever before, stretching from September 17th through October 29th, with a special opening reception planned for the evening of the 17th. Residents and visitors alike are invited to experience art woven seamlessly into the fabric of everyday life, all autumn long. This year’s event is thoughtfully timed to coincide with beloved local happenings—such as the annual October window painting— creating exceptionally vibrant opportunities to celebrate local creativity while amplifying visibility for both artists and local merchants. Reading with a Therapy Dog

Reading to a therapy dog is a proven and effective way to help children improve their literacy and communication skills. Reading aloud to specially trained, calm, and nonjudgmental animal companions creates a relaxed and welcoming environment where children feel comfortable and uninhibited, leading to increased confidence and reduced stress. These positive effects support stronger reading development and communication abilities. Therapy Dog Brigade’s specially trained and certified therapy dogs, volunteering alongside their owner-handlers, visit schools, libraries, and other community settings to provide a safe and supportive space for young readers, inspiring them to enjoy reading and grow into lifelong learners. This program is for kids in Kindergarten-5th grade. Each child will sign up for a 10 minute slot to read with the dog. Registration will open one week before the event. Westchester Children’s Museum now offers a STEAM drop-off program with fun educational hands-on exhibits, crafts and workshops. For four week-long sessios, young Explorers (ages 5-7) and Discoverers (ages 8-10) will dive into a curated schedule of workshops, creative crafts, and immersive play—all under the guidance of our dedicated staff and designed to ignite a passion for science, art, and innovation. Each session runs Monday through Friday with Morning Session (9:30am – 12:30pm) and Afternoon Session (1:00pm – 4:00pm) .
