Rev 250 - Revolutionary War Trivia Night

Butterfield Memorial Library · Cold Spring

Gather a team and test your knowledge of the American Revolution. Historical interpreter and local resident Matthew Weigman will serve as our emcee. The trivia will be five rounds of multiple choice - five opportunities to win a prize! Category 1: The Provocations | Category 2: The Battles | Category 3: The Daily Life | Category 4: The People of the Revolution | Category 5: The Hudson Valley A Putnam County resident since 1962, Matthew Weigman has had an interest in American history since the age of sixteen. His 32-year-career in communications at the auction house Sotheby’s concluded with nine years as Worldwide Director of Sales Communications, based in London. As a historical interpreter at Washington’s Headquarters Newburgh for the past five years, Matthew has enjoyed illuminating visitors and audiences about the significant achievements of the “indispensable man” of the American Revolution during its final sixteen months, as well as lecturing about the era of the Revolution itself. Next month he’ll be giving a talk about Historical Horticulture at the Desmond Fish Public Library in Garrison. ----- Now featuring a special prize - two sets of two complimentary tickets to the very first play reading of INTENT at the Fall Benefit at the Paramount Theater in Peekskill, NY (Sunday, October 18 at 2pm). Written by Mona Z. Smith and directed by Traci Mariano, INTENT is inspired by one of the most famous espionage plots in American history. In the play, the true story of the famous British spy, Major John André, is interwoven with the fictional story of Katje, a widowed tavern worker whose son joined the rebellion and is now missing in action. Set in a time when our nation was divided against itself in a deadly clash of convictions, this play explores the intersection between high-stakes politics and the raw grief of families losing fathers, brothers, and sons to a relentless, brutal war. A cast of seven actors (Patrick Halley, Carl Howell, Sean McNall, Ryan Quinn, Kurt Rhoads, Chris Thorn, & Nance Williamson) plays 20+ characters, including such noted Revolutionary War figures as André, Benedict Arnold, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, General Nathanael Greene, Benjamin Tallmadge, and the Marquis de Lafayette.
