About this event
This is a virtual event. The Classics, the unpopular and the overlooked; the works. If you haven't already, now is your chance to join us every month when we E-meet with a classic that shall no longer be glanced over. Although, we may read a well-known classic novel now and again, but more often than not; we will be discussing its underrated companions. This month we're reading The Letters of Vincent van Gogh — (PDF / EPUB / NYPL/ Worldcat ) by Vincent van Gogh. Few artists' letters are as self-revelatory as Vincent Van Gogh's, and the selection included here, spanning the whole of his artistic career, sheds light on every facet of the life and work of this complex and tortured man. Engaging candidly and movingly with his religious struggles, his ill-fated search for love, his intense relationship with his brother Theo and his attacks of mental illness, the letters contradict the popular image of Van Gogh as an anti-social madman and a martyr to art, showing instead that he was capable of great emotional and spiritual depths. Above all, they stand as an intense personal narrative of artistic development and a unique account of the process of creation. The letters are linked by explanatory biographical passages, revealing Van Gogh's inner journey as well as the outer facts of his life. This edition includes the drawings that originally illustrated the letters. This bookclub meets monthly, on a Saturday. Choice of Physical and or Digital reading materials is left to the reader's discretion. *The summary is sourced from various catalogs* [[{"fid":"395230","view_mode":"default","fields":{"format":"default","alignment":"center","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false},"link_text":null,"type":"media","field_deltas":{"2":{"format":"default","alignment":"center","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":false,"field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":false}},"attributes":{"height":439,"width":659,"class":"media-element file-default media-wysiwyg-align-center","data-delta":"2"}}]] What we have read so far: Invitation to a Beheading by Vladímir Nabokov The Blazing World by Margaret Cavendish The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke The Tartar Steppe (The Stronghold) by Dino Buzzati Miss Lonelyhearts & the Day of the Locust by Nathanael West The Letters of Gustave Flaubert, 1830-1857 (Vol 1 ) Knulp by Hermann Hesse Honey for the Bears by Anthony Burgess.
