Comprehensive SHSAT course, Spring/ Fall (In-Person)

Tue, May 12 · 5:30 PM

Tutoring Center - Smith Street Workshop · Carroll Gardens

The SHSAT is changing. Beginning in Fall 2026, the exam will shift to a digital, computer-adaptive format—a major change in how students take the test. Our 13-week Comprehensive Course is fully updated to reflect this new format and is designed to prepare students for both the academic content and the digital testing experience. The course begins in the spring of 7th grade and continues into the fall of 8th grade, concluding just before the SHSAT. It’s a great fit for students just beginning their prep, as well as those continuing from our Winter Skill-Builder course, which focuses on solidifying core ELA and math fundamentals. The Comprehensive course builds on that foundation, moving into more advanced content and test-specific strategies aligned with the new digital format. We start with a mini-diagnostic in ELA and math to help tailor instruction to the group’s needs as we move through the curriculum. While the SHSAT will continue to assess 7th grade math and ELA standards, the computer-adaptive format introduces new features, including adaptive question sequencing, updated navigation rules, and tech-enhanced items (TEIs). Students will learn strategies specifically designed for this format, helping them manage time effectively, navigate the interface confidently, and avoid common pitfalls. Students receive targeted homework after each class to reinforce key skills and strategies. A summer practice packet is also included to support continued progress between semesters. Throughout the course, students complete three full-length, proctored digital practice tests featuring TEIs that replicate the official testing interface. These are administered in person at our center to provide a realistic and fully supervised testing experience that mirrors actual exam conditions. The Comprehensive course includes: Spring : 7 two-hour classes + 1 proctored digital test in June Fall : 6 two-hour classes + 2 proctored digital tests in August/September and October Total : 26 instructional hours + 3 proctored full-length digital practice exams As the DOE continues to release updates, we are actively refining our materials to ensure students are fully prepared for every aspect of the new SHSAT.
