Tiny Town: Making Miniatures (Spring 2026)
Wed, May 13 · 3:15 PM
The Brooklyn Waldorf School · Bedford-Stuyvesant
This hands-on course invites children to explore their creativity through the art of miniature making. Each week, students will design and build one to three miniature pieces that will contribute to a collaborative final diorama. Along the way, children will learn about the artistic and practical applications of miniatures in architecture, set design, engineering, and stop-motion animation. Each class will begin with a short story, visual examples, or a hands-on demonstration highlighting how miniatures are used in real-world and artistic settings. Weekly themes may include architectural model making, building and destroying a miniature city, engineering models, miniature painting, educational museum models, film world-building (including the work of Wes Anderson), and behind-the-scenes views of stop-motion animation. Classes will conclude with a guided discussion and brainstorming session for the final project, encouraging students to share ideas, strengthen their creative thinking, and fully engage their imaginations.
