The Brooklyn Waldorf School · Bedford-Stuyvesant

In this playful, hands-on demo workshop, children will step into the world of sci-fi and re-invent New York City’s famous skyscrapers from the ground up! The workshop will begin with a quick, child-friendly chat about what science fiction is—then leap straight into the tall, bold buildings of Manhattan. What makes skyscrapers so special? And more importantly
what could they become? Could a skyscraper have wings like a bird? A nose for breathing? Secret rooms for friends and family? Together, the class will dream up fantastical designs and bring them to life. Each child will build their own unique “skyscraper creature” using a sturdy clay base and a mix of fun materials—sticks, cardboard, paper shapes, cups, foil, pipe cleaners, and more. Children can glue, tape, and stack their ideas as high (and as wild!) as they like. At the end, the class will gather all their creations into one magical display—their very own Sci-Fi Skyscraper Woods of Manhattan!

NOISE [FREE DEMO]

Mon, May 18 · 3:15 PM

The Brooklyn Waldorf School · Bedford-Stuyvesant

NOISE invites students on a sensory journey through the living world around them. In this after school class we will transform from passive listeners into active "sound-seekers," learning the art of Deep Listening to uncover the stories hidden in our built environment. Through the exploration of field recordings and the rhythmic power of both verbal and non-verbal storytelling, students will bridge the gap between their inner worlds and the outer landscape. By weaving together oral histories which include memories of songs, whispers, and rhythms from their own lives, we will celebrate the unique "sound-print" each child brings to the circle.

Musical Theater Songwriting [FREE DEMO]

Thu, May 21 · 3:15 PM

The Brooklyn Waldorf School · Bedford-Stuyvesant

This high-energy workshop will empower students to dive into the exciting world of musical theatre by creating their very own original song from start to finish (or close to it)! The class will kick off with some creative brainstorming as students gather inspiration from objects around the room or pull surprise prompt words out of a hat. From there, imaginations take center stage as they dream up characters, stories, and big musical moments. As a group, they will collaborate to write lyrics that bring a character’s voice to life—funny, dramatic, heartfelt, or anything in between. Then, with the help of a pianist, they will transform those lyrics into a fully realized song, experimenting with melody, mood, and musical style. Students can even explore the piano and the EastWest digital sound library to build their own unique accompaniment. Prior musical experience is not required! All children are invited to play, experiment, and make something unforgettable together.

Stitching Stories: Fiber Art and Textile Pictures [FREE DEMO]

Thu, May 28 · 3:15 PM

The Brooklyn Waldorf School · Bedford-Stuyvesant

In Stitching Stories , students will become fiber art storytellers by creating a mini textile panel that captures a moment from their own imaginative narrative—perfect as a small wall piece or a glimpse into a larger story. The class will begin with a bit of magic: each student will draw a prompt from the Story Hat—featuring curious creatures, faraway places, big feelings, or unexpected twists. From there, they’ll dream up a scene and bring it to life using fabric, layering, and simple hand-stitching techniques. This workshop is all about experimentation, texture, and imagination—there’s no “right” way to tell the story. Students will leave with a unique, handmade piece and a taste of how fiber art can transform ideas into something tangible and expressive.
