SPRING 2026: Thursdays Traditional Arts
Thu, May 14 · 3:30 PM
Prospect Park 9th Street Entrance · Park Slope
In our Traditional Arts Classes, children are introduced to craft traditions from around the world, working with authentic tools and techniques drawn from diverse cultures. Alongside hands-on art experiences, students explore mythology, history, ways of life, belief systems, and more, deepening their understanding of the cultural contexts behind each craft. This class is especially well suited for children who are passionate about slow crafting and curious about world traditions. In previous seasons, students have worked on projects such as weaving, basketry, block printing, silk dyeing, bookmaking, paper making, embroidery, natural ink making, stone carving, metal embossing, and much more! These classes will take place in Prospect Park, where students will enjoy meaningful time in nature and learn about plant identification and edible Northeastern plants. On rainy days, we'll meet indoors at Spark Home Studio at 523 8th street between Prospect Park West and 8th ave. https://sparkartsbk.org/
