Wings of Spring: Urban Birding in Central Park

This event will take place outdoors in Central Park but we will meet at the 53rd Street Library. Did you know over 280 species of birds have been documented in Central Park? Join us for part two of a three-part spring birding series led by expert birder Alan Drogin and see how many you can spot. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a curious beginner, this program will introduce you to the basics of bird identification, including how to recognize birds by shape, behavior, and sound. Spot some of the the spring migrators, such as colorful warblers, orioles, and thrushes, and explore the natural wonders hidden in the heart of the city! He is a member of the NYC Bird Alliance (formerly Audubon), the American Littoral Society, NYS Ornithological Association, and the Linnaean Society of New York. Ten years ago he began leading free bird walks throughout the city for the Linnaean Society. More recently he joined their board and took over as their webmaster and also has been leading Christmas Bird Counts for the Bird Alliance. Why go birding? Birding is more than just a hobby—it’s a powerful way to connect with nature and improve your well-being! It reduces stress and anxiety, encourages physical activity, fosters a sense of community, and best of all, it’s free and accessible to everyone. Program Details: Start Time: 11:00 AM – meet at the 53rd Street Library for a brief introduction and a binocular tutorial Departure: 11:15 AM – walk to Hallett Nature Sanctuary Birding: 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM - learn about the birds of Central Park Wrap-up: Binoculars returned at 12:45 PM (feel free to stay and keep exploring!) Registration opens April 30th Registration is limited. After registering with your email address above, participants will be asked to complete and return a waiver before attending. Binoculars will be given on a first come, first serve basis.
