About this event

Concertmaster Frank Huang is the soloist in Felix Mendelssohn’s lyrical Violin Concerto. Roberto González-Monjas also conducts Korngold’s sumptuous orchestral Theme and Variations and colorful Straussiana, an homage to Viennese waltz luminary Johann Strauss II. The heart of Vienna also beats strongly in the lilting waltzes of Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier Suite.

Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall · Upper West Side

The “superb pianist” (The New York Times) Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins Rafael Payare and the Orchestra for Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with its tender opening giving way to an extroverted role for the solo piano culminating in a fiery finale. With his final symphony, unfinished at his death, Bruckner pushes the boundaries of 19th-century harmony in this work of tremendous emotional power.
