About this event

Beethoven’s epic Ninth, with its muscular orchestral writing and choral finale, heralded a new age for the genre of the symphony and joyously affirmed our shared humanity. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Ninth alongside Leonard Bernstein’s arrangement of Beethoven’s final String Quartet.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason, previously scheduled to perform Bloch’s Schelomo, has had to withdraw from his New York Philharmonic appearances this season due to his ongoing recovery from a finger injury.

He is extremely disappointed to be unable to play with the New York Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel. He is grateful for the support and understanding he has received, and looks forward to returning to the New York Philharmonic. Updated repertoire for this program will be announced soon.

Dudamel & the Spanish Harlem Orchestra

An unprecedented collaboration between two New York–based orchestras, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, the Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music & Artistic Director Designate. On the first half: Dudamel leads the Philharmonic in Latin-flavored works spanning a century from across the Americas, including a work by Gabriela Ortiz. On the second, they are joined by the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, a three-time Grammy-winning Salsa and Latin Jazz band led by Oscar Hernández.
