About this event

Our camp takes place outdoors in Fort Greene Park and in our beautiful school at 462 Vanderbilt Avenue , where our caring, experienced teachers create a joyful, immersive French environment. Every year, summer camp is an opportunity to collectively refresh our ways of being together and teaching. The summer camp model is based on its own unique time and space, but also on a team that is partly renewed by welcoming new counselors, giving children the chance to interact with their teachers as well as new playmates and partners. It's about discovering things in a continuous way, both in terms of activities and the team! Our weekly sessions engage children in French through play, art, music, storytelling, and hands-on science. Our main goal is to spark joy, creativity, and language development through fresh experiences and exploration. You’re free to sign up for just one week, several weeks, or all six—whatever fits your family’s summer plans! Who Can Attend: Children ages 3 to 8 (with prior school experience), regardless of French proficiency. Children ages 1–2, already enrolled at LLS, are eligible to register as well. Schedule & Dates: Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM, with optional extended day from 2:30-4:00pm (if we have enough interest). Thematic Weeks: Each week highlights a different theme, helping children develop a deep respect and love for their environment. Why Choose French Nature Camp? Outdoor Exploration & Hands-On Learning: Children climb trees, explore uneven terrain, and observe the sky, clouds, and wind—all while immersed in French. Week 1: À la loupe! Les grandes petites choses de ce monde Focus: Let’s bring our attention to the smallest of things, to look, take time, take care, and find out what big things the smallest things have to say about our world.

This class is designed for children with little to no exposure to French. Grounded in the science of language acquisition and early childhood development, our methodology draws from repetition with variation, total physical response, emotional connection, and meaningful routines. Children are immersed in a structured environment that builds confidence and comprehension. We focus on high-frequency vocabulary, colors, numbers, greetings, classroom commands and use visual cues, gestures, and props to bring the language to life.

Sewing is a meditational act, a portal to creativity and self-expression. How wonderful would it be to make your own garments instead of buying them at the store? It has always been such a gift for Liza to be able to sew her own garments, choosing the fabric, the style, and the design. Liza's biggest inspiration is her mother who sewed dresses for her and her sister when they were young. We will explore questions such as: How are fabrics made? Where do they come from? What are natural and synthetic fabrics? What products from nature can be used to dye fabric? How can we reuse a piece of fabric to create a new garment? How do we measure our bodies to make sure that the clothing fits properly? This course will be taught in French.

French Pre-Writing and Reading Class (Adapted CNED course)

Sat, May 16 · 9:30 AM

LLS - Clinton Hill · Clinton Hill

This introductory adapted CNED literacy class is designed for fluent French-speaking children who are ready to begin learning how to read and write in French. Taught by an experienced Alliance New York instructor and hosted at the Language and Laughter Studio in Brooklyn, the class offers structured weekly support to help children build strong early literacy foundations. Each Saturday, children explore new letters, sounds, and syllables; practice handwriting; and begin decoding simple words and short sentences. Through playful activities, vocabulary building, early grammar awareness, and small shared readings, students gradually develop confidence in recognizing sounds, forming words, and creating their first written sentences. Instruction is adapted within the group so that each child is met at their level, supported, and appropriately challenged. Families receive brief weekly updates and guidance to reinforce learning at home, encouraging steady and joyful progress. This course is ideal for K and 1st grade students, fluent French speakers who are just beginning their journey with reading and writing. Our goal is to nurture their curiosity, support their emerging skills, and help them take their first steps into French literacy with confidence.
