About this event

designs for personal expression and flair… colorful accessories to make and wear! Makers spend the week creating original designs to showcase their personal style. The focus is on simple designs, pattern-making and construction skills, and accessories to use and wear. While there is the option to use some hand-sewing, this is not a sewing class (and we do not use sewing machines). The colorful projects introduce campers to a range of skills – and most important of all, the fun of wearing designs that you’ve created yourself! Projects include Felt Bags and Pouches, Duck Tape Wallet, DIY T-Shirt Designs, Bag and Backpack Charms, Necklaces and Beaded Charms, Tie Dye Socks, Resin Candy Key Chains, Spa Accessories, and Costume Pieces.

design in in miniature, and let your imagination take the lead! Miniature Worlds are some of our favorite places to be! In this class, makers design their own dollhouse-style structures and create other projects to add around it. Campers start with prefabricated wooden boxes and assemble their own structure. (A trapeze school, toy museum, or ultra-modern home? They’ve made it!) With their architect’s hat on, they think about setting, scale, and who they are designing it for. They plan out the surface finishings and add extended spaces; they design the furniture and accessories; and they incorporate all sorts of clever engineering – like a pulley-system elevator or cantilevered swimming pool for tree frogs (yes, we’ve seen this!) Campers are doing so much learning while they are making, and they constantly amaze us with their creativity. The classroom becomes their studio and miniature world. Got designer’s block? make sophisticated projects, learn new skills, and lead young campers The CIT Studio program is a combination of project-making, project *designing* and hands-on help with campers in the classroom. Project-making: CITs spend the first part of the day working on their own projects for creative self-expression. Each project touches on a different material and technique, and from there, they can let their own creativity be their guide. Project-designing: Over the course of the week, CITs work in pairs to design a project to lead with their camper group. They learn how to organize the materials, create and lead a how-to, prep key steps, organize the supplies, and lead a small class through a project they have designed. Working with campers: CIT pairs are matched with a specific camper class to work with over the course of the week. In the afternoon, CITs join their camper class to assist the instructor, and help campers with their projects. Outside of the camper classroom, CITs are guided on leadership skills and working with a young group. At the end of the week, CITs lead their *own* project – the one they’ve been developing over the week – with their camper class. Some of this year’s new projects at Curious Jane were inspired by CIT creations from last summer! [The program is designed around a one-week experience, and CITs may join for one or two weeks, without repeating projects.]

colorful design for crafters who like to get a big technical This theme is for makers who love to design things and aren't afraid to get a little bit technical. This collection of projects incorporates a lot of creativity and a little engineering – all with such a satisfying outcome! We balance guided-step projects with plenty of time for open-ended creativity. For example, an arcade game with moving parts requires a little precision and offers a lot of room for imaginative design. Or our an LED light-up collage that uses simple wiring and is so much fun to bring to life! Projects include a Film Clapper Board, Favorite Word Wall Pennants, Creative Collage, DIY Arcade Game, Scribble Bots, Posters that Say Something, and more.
