About kids' events in College Point
Queens' College Point sits on a peninsula jutting into Flushing Bay, and it has a genuinely low-key, residential feel, more tree-lined blocks and one-family houses than the denser parts of Queens just to the south. It is the kind of place where families have stayed for generations, and that shows in the pace on a weekend afternoon. For outdoor time with a small kid, Hermon A. MacNeil Park is the anchor spot: a 28-acre waterfront park with a children's playground, shady walking paths, and wide open lawn space where a toddler can actually run. The views of the Whitestone Bridge are a bonus. The Queens Public Library Poppenhusen branch, a Carnegie-funded landmark on 14th Avenue, has a dedicated children's section and a history of running toddler storytimes and early childhood programs, making it a solid cold-weather fallback. The one practical thing to know: there is no subway here. Buses connect to the 7 train in Flushing, which is manageable, but most families coming in from outside the neighborhood drive. Street parking near the park and library is usually findable. There are no local studio storefronts in College Point itself, but Queens Public Library Poppenhusen runs events here regularly.
