About this event

Textile Arts Camp is Week Three of the Brooklyn Waldorf School ’s Grades Adventurers Summer Camp , open to students in Rising 2nd–Rising 6th Grade . Grades Adventurers combines immersive specialty programming with weekly field trips for added fun. Each week, campers dive into a different specialty theme and finish the week empowered with a unique new skill. Natural crafts, movement games, and outdoor play are sprinkled throughout each day. A detailed packing list will be shared with families before camp begins. Week Three: Travel the World Through Textiles In this hands-on camp, students will explore textile-making traditions from around the world, learning both traditional and contemporary techniques. Throughout the week, campers will experiment with shibori tie-dye, natural dyeing, batik, relief printing, cyanotype, and eco-printing, while discovering the cultural history and context behind each method. The week is enriched by a special mid-week field trip that deepens students’ connection to textile arts and creative inspiration. From twisting and tying fabric to soaking it in vibrant dyes, pressing leaves and flowers into cloth, and printing intricate designs, every day offers a new creative adventure. By week’s end, students will sew together their creations into a stunning vertical quilt or wall hanging —a unique visual showcase of their global textile journey. On Thursday, the group will take a field trip to Creative Minds BK for a Weaving Workshop , where each child will have an opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind handmade tapestry — a beautiful piece they designed and wove themselves.
