About this event

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Diving into the region of West Africa, we will look at various art forms including masks, textiles, sculpture, architecture, puppetry, and literature, creating multiple art projects inspired by this culture. In our West African study, depending on the time at hand, we will focus specifically on art from Ghana, Nigeria, and Mali. Our art projects will be inspired by such topics as Kente cloth from Ghana, the Benin and Yoruba sculptures from Nigeria, and the puppetry, stories, and architecture from Mali. We will most likely spend some time getting to know a child friendly version of the Story of Sundiata , which is essential when studying the prosperous Kingdom of Mali in the 13th century. We teach history through art! We teach history through art! Our Studio B is home to our youngest and first-time Goose Greasers , who will learn the basic building blocks of art-making and our Goose Grease style. Our pedagogical approach is to immerse our students in our topic of study while creating, taking notes, and having inspiring conversation. School Pickup: Mondays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132 Tuesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132 Wednesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132 Thursdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 84 *IS 318 Students walk over in a group on Tuesdays Please review our studio policies here. The Industrial Revolution | 2026 Spring

Mon, May 18 · 3:00 PM

Goose Grease House | Studio A · Southside

CLASS DESCRIPTION: We will study how the Industrial Revolution spread from England to the United States by making a machine related art object, potentially a train, historic telephone, and/or a factory. We will be taking a close look at inventions such as the wireless telegraph, the steam engine, the telephone, electricity, and the factory. We will be thinking through the deep transformations that human beings went through as the ‘machine’ started to be a reality of everyday life. We teach history through art! Our afternoon workshops are supplemental learning sessions to your child's education, as we add geography and history to all of our art classes. Our unique curriculum is designed and taught by Anna (MFA) and Juan Carlos Donado (PhD in Philosophy). Advanced Drawing & Art History | Spring 2026From $1

Advanced Drawing & Art History | Spring 2026

Tue, May 19 · 3:00 PM

Goose Grease House | Studio A · Southside

CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class we focus on 2D works and the foundations of art through an exploration into foundational drawing and painting. This class is suited for 4th graders and up that are looking to sharpen their classical art skills as we will make artist-inspired copies to practice and other works that reinforce our shading and basic art skills. Simultaneously, we will discuss Art History. **While we will be using High School Portfolio standards to inform our practice, we will not necessarily be making pieces that will fit your 8th grade portfolio application (please see our note below). Please note , the portfolio requirements for the High School application are very rigorous, and cannot be completed in this Tuesday class alone. If you have a 7th or 8th grader that is building a portfolio and would like our assistance, you will need to add-on an additional fee of $90 weekly. This will give your child access to attend our studio any additional days they would like where they will work independently on the assignments required for their portfolio. We will also assign them required homework. Please email us about this option. This class is taught by Anna Donado, MFA, and Juan Carlos Donado, PhD in Philosophy. *Please note , this class will focus on works on paper with pencil, paint, and pastels. There will be little to no 3D building as this is a rigorous drawing and art history class. Homework This class will receive a weekly homework assignment. While homework is optional, we do recommend that your child completes the assignments each week in order to benefit the most from the class. School Pickup: Mondays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 84 Tuesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 18 Wednesdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 18 Thursdays: Brooklyn Arbor, PS 132, PS 84 *IS 318 Students walk over in a group on Tuesdays Our afternoon workshops are supplemental learning sessions to your child's education, as we add geography and history to our art classes.
